![]() Education is the key to helping youth make their mark! Daily Bread Food Bank is a great resource and offers tools and opportunities to help you educate your students or youth group about poverty and hunger in the GTA and get them thinking about what they can do to make a difference. We offer a multitude of educational opportunities including workshops, guest speakers, annual student challenges and downloadable materials that help you create teachable curriculum units for your classroom. Workshops Our workshops explore the factors that result in people to experiencing hunger and poverty. These interactive workshops examine perceptions and stereotypes surrounding poverty, hunger and community responses to the growing issues. Workshops are offered at our New Toronto Street facility or at your location. Be sure to share your group’s learning objectives with us. Educational materials enhance and add to lessons that you may already be teaching. We can adapt materials and workshops to accommodate students’ age range and group needs. In addition to a workshop, we can also provide a hands-on, food-sorting experience at Daily Bread so participants learn the value of volunteering. Our workshops are innovative, hands-on and engaging. Your students will be surprised with what they learn and so will you! Workshop themes include: Quick review of what Daily Bread Food Bank does The real deal on poverty and hunger: Dispelling myths and stereotypes How can we measure poverty? What is a food bank? Needs versus wants Advocacy and me Anti-oppression Photo analysis Create your own campaign and make a difference (art based) Learning about income: role play and group discussion Guest Speakers Drawing from our organization’s work in providing food relief and fighting hunger, we can offer engaging speakers to come out to your organization or school and bring to life the issues impacting our clients, who experience hunger. These presentations provide an overview of the operations of Daily Bread and the scope of hunger and poverty in the Greater Toronto Area. Our speakers are able to tailor content to different age groups and audiences. Hungry City Student Challenge To get youth thinking about hunger and poverty and solutions to those problems, we have developed an annual student challenge. This year, students will have the chance to try their hand at writing. Click here to learn more.
